Dad's object lesson

Last evening at church, my dad had the children's chats. Children's chats are short object lessons for the younger children at our church.

Here is what his lesson was:

My dad had three children come up with him that volenteered. He had the first one crack an egg into a clear bowl showing the egg whites and yolk. The next child cracked his egg too but his was hard boiled and just fell into the bowl. The last child was asked to hammer her egg. My dad backed up and had paper towels ready. However, this egg we had blown the insides out so it was hollow and when she hammered, it was empty.

Three eggs- all look alike on the outside, but the insides all very different. Just by looking, we can't tell what is on the inside, can we? This is kind of how we are as people. We all look very much the same on the outside (in that we all have arms, legs, eyes, nose, etc.) but we don't really know what someone is like on the inside. But God does.
Hebrews 4:13: "Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before His eyes of him to whom we must give account ."

That means that God knows everything about us. We can do a lot of good things and go to church and obey our paents, but God knows what is in our hearts.

1 Samuel 16:7b: "The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart."

So how do we prepare our hearts so that we can live in heaven? The answer is simple.

Romans 10:9 says, "That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."

Mom and I were talking then more about the three different eggs and and I wanted to remember this too.
The first egg was in its natural state. It can be made into whatever dish you wanted it to be. Just like we as Christian should be ready for whatever the Lord has for us to do.
The second egg was hard boiled. It is firm and wouldn't change. Thats kind of like when people are stuburn and wont listen to the Lord. It's like having a hardened heart!
The last egg was hollow and empty. We can't let our hearts and minds be empty either. As a Christian we should always be trying to learn more about Jesus and fill our hearts and minds with His word and His love and be willing to share it with everyone we meet.
